Historically all air conditioning equipment manufacturers have provided parts only warranties while the installing contractor was expected to provide the labor portion of the warranty. Prior to May of 2009, the larger components such as compressors and coils were covered for five years and the smaller ancillary items such as relays and other electrical parts for one. Typically, the labor portion of the warranty, provided by the installer, has only covered the first year of operation.
The Good News
Manufacturers, in trying to gain larger shares of the market, have increased their coverage of parts. Your system has a warranty that will cover all parts including the small parts for a full ten years when registered at the time of installation. Labor Costs
The downside is labor. This has never changed in the industry with coverage for the first year of operation still being the standard. In some cases, customers have opted to purchase an extended labor warranty. With all of the regulations and requirements of employment today and with parts being in warranty, labor has become the most costly portion of a repair.
